To achieve a high standard of oral performance we may recommend a combination of root canal (endodontic) treatments, gum disease (periodontal) therapy and prosthodontic restorations. The final restorations may range from simple or complex fillings to crowns and bridges or removable dentures supported by either teeth or dental implants performed at our Harley Street dentists.

Biomimetic Restoration of Teeth

This technique is used to restore a damaged tooth using modern adhesive techniques and can be carried out with either tooth-coloured fillings or porcelain veneers and restorations. Using advanced materials and adhesives, a prosthodontist creates an extremely strong bond between the filling and the tooth that removes less of the natural tooth structure. This creates a long-lasting restored tooth that functions and performs the same as an intact natural tooth and minimises the need for further treatment in the future, such as root canals or crowns.

Crowns and Bridges

If you have one or more damaged teeth, then the prosthodontist may recommend a crown as the best treatment option. A crown is a hollow ‘cap’ which is placed on top of the damaged tooth in order to restore it and prevent further damage. If a tooth, or row of teeth, is missing then a bridge may be used to replace it. A bridge is an artificial tooth which is secured into place by the abutment teeth either side. Crowns or bridges are definitive fixed solutions which may be used on teeth or dental implants. Both conventional and metal-free restorations are provided according to treatment needs.

Dental Implants

A natural-looking, permanent replacement solution for missing teeth that involves the insertion of a small titanium rod into your jawbone. Following this an artificial tooth, usually a crown or bridge, is fitted on top that looks and functions exactly the same as a real tooth.

Treatment of Discoloured Teeth

Discolouration of the teeth can be the result of both extrinsic and intrinsic factors. Extrinsic stains occur on the exterior of the teeth and can be removed using tooth whitening techniques. Intrinsic stains are caused by an issue inside the tooth’s tissue. A prosthodontist will conduct a thorough examination of an intrinsically stained tooth ahead of any treatment in order to diagnose and resolve the problem. Following this, they may recommend various techniques for addressing the problem, including tooth whitening or veneers, which are thin sheets of porcelain that are cemented permanently to the tooth, as the best restorative treatment option.

Gum Disease (Periodontal) Treatments

Periodontitis is an infection of the tissues that hold the teeth in place and is caused by a build-up of plaque and bacteria. We offer both surgical and non-surgical treatment options for this infection in collaboration with our Specialist in periodontology.

Rehabilitation of Worn or Eroded Teeth and Dentitions

Over time teeth can become worn down, due to factors such as natural erosion, teeth grinding, acidic foods or friction. Depending on the cause of wear, the prosthodontist may recommend different restorative treatments. The primary treatment options are dental bonding or restorations, which involves the placement of a tooth-coloured composite or ceramic veneers on the worn edges of the teeth in order to provide additional dimension or protection.

Removable Dentures

Dentures are a replacement solution for missing teeth and tissues that can be taken in and out of the mouth. Complete dentures are an option if you are missing a whole row of teeth, while partial dentures are used when some teeth still remain. The denture is made up of the artificial teeth which are attached to a gum-coloured plastic base and a metal framework that holds it in the correct position in the mouth. This is a natural-looking restorative option that also helps to ensure the remaining teeth do not change or move position.

Root Canal Treatments

This restorative option repairs a decayed or infected tooth that, if left, could lead to an abscess or more severe issues. An infection occurs when the tooth’s nerve and pulp become inflamed. The cause of this could be a variety of different factors, including trauma, large fillings, chips in the tooth or other procedures. In the root canal procedure, the dentist or a Specialist Endodontist will remove the tooth’s nerve and pulp to thoroughly clean and seal the inside of the tooth.
